Died: Sep 26, 2012
Ocean Park, ME – Patricia L. (Boobar) Kessler, 72, of Hobe Sound, FL and Ocean Park, ME died surrounded by her family on Wednesday September 26, 2012 at her home in Maine. She was the wife of Richard T. Kessler.
Pattie was born in Boston, MA on February 14, 1940 the daughter of the late Lester & Erma (Steeves) Boobar. With her father being a Methodist minister, she spent her childhood in many different locations throughout Maine; however most of her younger years were spent in Portland. She graduated from Deering High School as a member of the class of 1958 and then went on to obtain her BA in Journalism through Syracuse University. Shortly after college she married Richard and spent just shy of 50 years with him.
She worked for Amica Insurance for almost twenty years before retiring in 2003, spending time at locations in Connecticut, New Hampshire and finally Portland, ME. In 1995, she and her husband began their own business venture at The Nautilus by the Sea Guesthouse in Ocean Park, ME. The same town she had summered her entire life. She continued to work with her husband at the inn until falling ill.
Pattie was a member of the Ocean Park Association. She was a caring and extremely gregarious person whom loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, and what she liked to call, “chit-chat”. Pattie and her husband thoroughly enjoyed the beach and traveling the world together, notably Egypt and the Galapagos Islands.
Pattie very much enjoyed being with her family and friends. She would repeatedly make reference to her amazing friends and family. Pattie was kind, clever, thoughtful, good-natured, witty, understanding, welcoming, loving, admired and cherished. She had an infectious personality and an open heart for everyone. What we will remember most of Pattie is her everlasting smile. Even during a tough battle with cancer for 3 1/2 years. She never did stop smiling.
Besides her husband she is survived by her three children, Rebecca Paquette and her husband Michael of Griswold, CT; Valerie Kessler of South Portland and Steven Kessler and his wife Kay of Topsham. She also leaves her four grandchildren Derek and Brett Paquette, Joseph and Jacob Kessler as well as two brothers John Robert Boobar and his wife Marlene of Hobe Sound, FL and Daniel Boobar and his wife Jean of Rockport, ME.
Services will be private.
