Scarborough, ME – James H. Lash, 83, of Portland died on Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was predeceased by his wife of almost fifty years, the late Ellen (Tripp) .
Jim was born on January 8, 1929 in Geneseo, IL a son of the late Clarence R. & Esther (Brauns) Lash. He grew up in Geneseo and attended local area schools and graduated from the local high school. He then went on to obtain his Masters in Theater.
Jim was a college professor of theater for a time and also an actor, doing some summer stock, as well as independent movies. In the mid 1980’s, while touring with the show, they discovered and fell in love with Boothbay Harbor and he and his wife moved there and opened a bookstore. They retired to Peaks Island in 1990.
He was a member of the National Nature Conservatory and greatly enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. He was also an avid sailor.
The last of his immediate family he is survived by many dear friends.
A private memorial service will be held for his close friends.
