Falmouth, ME — Gertrude “Gert” R. Carr, 75, of Falmouth died at home on October 27, 2012, surrounded by her loving family after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on August 25, 1937, the daughter of Pat and Rae (Murphy)Blethen. She attended Abbot and Guilford area schools. In 1956 she married her sweetheart, Merton Carr of Abbot.
She worked in area mills and help tend her husband’s logging business, as well as being a devoted mother to their children. After they were grown, she and her husband moved to the Allagash to care take sporting camps. Later moving to the coast of Maine to caretake properties on Falmouth Foreside. She was known as a great cook and a compassionate caregiver. She enjoyed visits from her family and friends, sewing, and was an avid NASCAR fan, knowing everything there was to know about Dale Earnhardt Sr. She had wit, charm, a great sense of humor and had a passion for living.
She is survived by her husband, Merton of 56 years, three loving daughters and their spouses, Teresa and Chuck Talbot of Abbot, Cheri and Randy Wentworth of Abbot and Roxanne Holmbom of Greenville. She also leaves behind six amazing grandchildren, Josh and friend Brooke, Lucas and his wife Katie, Melissa, Stephanie and friend Levi, Hannah and Allyson. Also seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, Gabe, Gracie, Beau, Makayla and Jaydon. A brother Clifford and his wife Myrna of Massachusetts. Several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her lil’ white Bichon, Murphy. She will be sadly missed by her family and all her friends on the Foreside as well as friends Joanne, Lita, Pam, Joan, Elma and Sandy. She was predeceased by two sons, Randall and Rexford and a brother, Roger.
The family wishes to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to her Hospice caregivers.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Abbot Village Cemetery, Main Road, Abbot.
