William H. “Bill” Dame

Yarmouth – William “Bill” H. Dame, 73, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side at Gosnell Memorial House in Scarborough on January 2, 2019 after a brief but courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He is predeceased by his wife Linda B. Dame.

William was one of 7 children, born October 31, 1945 in Portland to Naomi E. Hanscom and Alfred O. Dame. Bill “duck” (as they called him in high school) graduated from Gorham High School with the class of 1964. He excelled in sports, often being mentioned in the newspaper for his athletic abilities especially in track and cross country.

He worked locally at North Yarmouth Academy for 28 years in the maintenance department, where he was well liked by students, faculty and parents. In fact, one year the school year book was dedicated to him.  Bill was a resident in Yarmouth for over 40 years and will most definitely be missed by the community.

Bill was a kind, gentle and loving husband/father. He was dedicated to his wife caring for her at home before she passed in 2009. He was extremely close with his daughter, Kristy. They were always together and shared an unbreakable bond. Many laughs were shared in the Dame household, as Bill was always making up funny rhymes and rap lyrics to entertain his wife and daughter. Bill was an extremely giving person, always putting others first. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, watching the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox games. He lived for the weekends when he could spend time with his granddaughter “Bella”, taking her to eat at her favorite restaurant, McDonalds and watching her play on the playground equipment near his home. He was so very proud to be Bella’s grandpa.

He is survived by his loving daughter Kristy Dame, son in law William Perry and the light of his life Isabella Perry his granddaughter of Lewiston, Maine, only surviving sibling Dorothy Burnham and husband James Burnham of Gorham, Maine, Sister in law Emily Nadeau and husband Richard Nadeau of Minot, many cherished cousins and adored nieces and nephews. Bill will surely be missed by all those who love him.  

Bill was welcomed at the gates of heaven by his wife Linda B. Dame, mother Naomi, his brothers George, Robert, Alfred and Thomas Dame, sister Arlene Brehart, along with many other treasured family members and friends who have passed before him.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life gathering at the Yarmouth History Center, 118 E Elm Street Yarmouth, ME 04096 on February 2, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Guests may park across the street at the Royal River Park.
