Cape Elizabeth, ME – We lost our very special dad, friend, and husband of 65 years on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, Robert H. Tripler passed away at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
Born in the Bronx, NY, son of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Tripler, Robert “Trip” Tripler and graduated from Bronx High School of Science and Gettysburg College. Joined the Navy during WWII, and went on to earn an MBA at the Wharton School of Business.
He worked for Price Waterhouse in NYC, traveled in Europe, where he met his wife, and worked as Commissary Manager at the American Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark. After receiving a teaching degree at Hofstra University, Trip taught business courses at Baldwin and Uniondale High Schools on Long Island, until retiring to Maine to be closer to his daughter and family. He enjoyed many delightful summers working at Kamp Kohut, in Oxford, Maine, which is now owned and operated by the family. He was very active in the American Civil Liberties Union, The Democratic Party and local politics. He was passionate about his family, writing, skiing and playing bridge.
Survived by his wife Elsebeth Tripler, daughter Lisa Tripler (Daniel Rapaport), son Scott Tripler (Patricia Somerville), and grandchildren, Julie Rapaport (Greg Levine), Carly Rapaport (Alex Vargas), Keith, Abby and Genny Tripler.
A memorial service will be held at The First Congregational Church, 301 Cottage Road, South Portland on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 3 p.m.
