Janice “Jan” A. Kuliga

Scarborough, Maine – Janice (Jan) Anne Kuliga, 83, of Kennebunk died peacefully on August 15, 2015, while surrounded by her loving family, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Jan was married to her husband George J. Kuliga for 44 years, until his death in April 1994.

The daughter of Harrison A. Hill Jr. and Olive G. Coffey, Jan was born in Newburyport, MA on March 7, 1932. The family relocated to New Bedford, MA where she graduated from New Bedford High School.

In 1960, she and her family moved to Rockland, ME. Over the years, Jan was employed by Prock Marine of Rockland and later the KnoWalLin Home Health Agency of Rockland. She retired in 1985 and shortly thereafter she and George moved to Barefoot Bay, FL where she resided until March of 2015. She then relocated to The Atria Kennebunk in Kennebunk, where she lived until the time of her death.

While living in Florida, she enjoyed extensive travel, social events, games, and playing cards with her friends. In recent years she looked forward to returning to Maine to spend summers at Sea-Vu West in Wells. While at the Atria Kennebunk she enjoyed exercise classes, numerous social activities, day trips, and most recently participating as a cast member in the play South Pacific, put on by the Atria residents.

Jan was a member of St Bernard’s Catholic Church in Rockland, St. Luke’s of Barefoot Bay, and during the summer a communicant of St. Mary’s of Wells.

Surviving are her three sons Kevin J. Kuliga and his wife Edna of Dalton, MA, Kenneth G. Kuliga and his wife Cheryl of Sanford, ME, Gregory J. Kuliga and his wife Nancy of Windham, ME; six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren: several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was also a sister of the late Jean McGrath.

At the request of the family, there will be no visitation.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 25 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, Maine, with the Rev. Thomas Murphy officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074
