Bradford H. “Brad” Smith

Portland, ME — Bradford Hamblin Smith, age 67, of Farmington, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014, after a brief illness at Maine Medical Center, with his family by his side. 

Bradford was born to Carrollinn Johansson Smith and Lester Mayhew Smith in Concord, MA on July 31, 1947.  He was a graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury High School and Park University, Parkville, MO. 

A full-time real estate broker since 1972, Brad established Bean & Smith Real Estate in 1982 which he continued to manage until February, 2014. He was most recently associated with Coldwell Banker Sandy River Realty. 

Brad truly enjoyed his work and was an extremely knowledgeable broker having skillfully negotiated the sale of hundreds of properties over the years.

 

Brad was a former director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited, former Rotarian, and a member of the Farmington Elks Club and the Maine Association of Realtors. He was a gifted fundraiser for the causes he championed

   

On May 29, 1982, Brad married the love of his life, Juanita “Chummy” Bean at the Reed’s Mills church in Madrid, ME. Brad was a dearly loved and truly devoted husband and a caring and invested father, instilling in his sons a sense of civic duty, selflessness and responsibility. His love of the outdoors was also passed on to his sons who are now avid outdoorsmen.  

Brad was never happier then when enjoying the great outdoors with family & friends whether it be duck, upland bird, or game hunting, fly fishing, gardening, downhill or cross country skiing, or maple sugaring. He also enjoyed walking the beaches and whale and bird watching on White Head Island, New Brunswick where he and his family enjoyed their vacation home. Brad was an extremely out-going man and a loyal and generous friend to many. 

Brad is survived by his wife, Chummy, his son, Jeremy, and daughter-in-law, Brooks, and her sons Rowan and Alden of Wayne, ME, his son, Tucker, of Seattle, WA, his brother, Gerald, and sister-in-law, Janet, of Lancaster, MA, his brother, Craig, and husband, Larry Jacobsen, of Portland, OR, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally & Merit Bean Jr. of Madrid, ME, his brother-in-law, Peter Royce, of Barrington, NH and many nieces and nephews.  Brad was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Chandler Smith. 

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. this Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Reed’s Mills Church, Reed’s Mills Rd., Madrid, ME and a celebration of Brad’s life will follow from 4:30-7:00 p.m. at The West Farmington Elks Lodge, School Street, West Farmington, ME.
