Robert Scott Hatch

Portland – Robert Scott Hatch, 74, of South Portland, died on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.  He was the husband of Susan J. Henderson. 

Scott was born in South Windham, ME on April 24, 1940, a son of the late William and Estella (Nichols) Hatch.  He grew up in Westbrook, attending local area schools and graduating from Westbrook High School. 

He spent many years doing electrical work. In his 50’s, he majored in computer programming at USM. Before retirement, he worked in the lawn and garden department at the Wal-Mart in Scarborough. 

In his younger years, Scott did stage lighting for community theatre and the Cumberland County Civic Center, he became a member of the IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) Union. Later, he volunteered on Knightville neighborhood development committees, with the Boy Scout of America and the Red Cross. He was an amateur HAM radio operator with the call sign KBIVYV. Scott enjoyed photography and reading science fiction. 

Scott loved his family deeply. Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children Debra Johnston and her husband Wayne of Woodward, OK, Cindy Gale of Limington, Daniel Hatch and his life partner Stacie McClintock of Portland and Jennifer Hatch also of Portland.  He also leaves seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren as well as his sister Pamela Hatt and her husband Leon of Harrington, ME, his sister-in-law Gayla Hatch of Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.  He was also the brother of the late William Hatch, who died in 2005. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Woodford’s Club, 179 Woodford’s Street, Portland.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth. 

Burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Portland will be private.
