Rachel B. (Gagne) Kemp

 
Died: Monday, September 10, 2012
 
Lewiston – Rachel B. (Gagne) Kemp, 65, of Lisbon Falls passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late William J. Kemp III who died on August 22, 2004.
 
She was born in Westbrook, ME on October 22, 1946 a daughter of the late Hormidas L. “Mike” & Alma P. (Cantara) Gagne. She grew up in Westbrook attending local area schools, graduating from Westbrook High School. She married William on October 24, 1964. They resided in Raymond, Maine up until his passing, shortly after that she moved to Lisbon Falls with her daughter and son-in-law.
 
Rachel worked at numerous places of employment, Sylvania/G.E., Bradley’s, Microwave Technique, S.D. Warren, and up to her recent retirement, Wal-Mart in N. Windham and Brunswick.
 
She enjoyed reading romance novels, crocheting and playing Cribbage with anyone willing to go up against her. She also enjoyed scratch tickets and loved Bingo and the slots, making several trips to Foxwoods with her sister. Rachel was a kind and caring woman who was completely devoted to her family and her grandchildren were her pride and joy, supporting them in whatever they did.
 
Rachel was predeceased by her sister C. Priscilla Fecteau, who passed away May of 2012.
 
She is survived by her three children Elizabeth Sullivan and her husband Jay of Lisbon, Michael Kemp and his fiancée Debbie Dow of Parsonsfield, and Suzanne Miller and her husband Jeffrey of Lisbon Falls. She also leaves her seven grandchildren William, Traci, Christopher, Sarah-Ann, Michael, Kolby-William, Aizyk-Michael and eight great grandchildren as well as a godson Dennis Fecteau of Standish and several nieces and nephews.
 
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ICU at St. Mary’s Hospital, your care and kindness can never be repaid.

Michal R. Jensen

 
Died: Saturday, September 8, 2012
 
Portland, ME — Michal R. Jensen, 69, of Portland died on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Seaside Nursing Home after a long battle with cancer. 
 
Michal was born in Souix City, Iowa on July 18, 1943 a daughter of the late Herman & Dona (McDonald) Rahn. She grew up in Souix City, attending local area schools. 
 
She served her country as a US Marine between 1963 and 1965. She lived in many areas across the country before moving to Maine in the late 1980’s.
 
She spent the last ten years working as a CNA for New England Rehab in Portland and prior to that did data entry for Blue Cross & Blue Shield.
 
She had an affinity for animals, rescuing several over the years and was devoted to her latest dog, Beauty. Michal also enjoyed shopping, which was her favorite pastime. It didn’t matter what she was shopping for, she enjoyed buying things for others. Walks along the beach, especially Old Orchard Beach, was also something she was very fond of.
 
She is survived by her three sons Donnie Benson and his wife Ronda of Miamisburg, OH, Bryce Jensen and his wife Nicole and Cory Jensen both of Portland. She also leaves six grandchildren Cody Benson, Christian Lockwood and his wife Ashley, Jennifer, Eric, Matthew and Sienna Jensen as well as a great grandchild Korbin Lockwood, a sister Patricia Keller and her husband John of Denver, CO and several nieces and nephews.

Julie Ann (Twombly) Marshall

Died: Thursday, September 6, 2012
 
Portland – Julie Ann (Twombly) Marshall, 64, of South Portland, died on Friday, September 6, 2012 at Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Portland, ME on June 4, 1948 a daughter of the late Rodney “Earl” & Marjorie V. (Dennett) Twombly. Julie grew up in Portland attending local area schools and has been a southern Maine resident all of her life.
Julie worked at the old Hospital Pharmacy and then as a bookkeeper for Elm Ice & Oil in Falmouth. She most recently worked at the VFW in South Portland, which she was also a life member, as a bartender and cook.
She enjoyed all types of crafts as well as crocheting and was always cooking for family and friends.
She is survived by her three children Eugene Worcester of Westbrook, Lisa A. Worcester also of Westbrook and Daniel Worcester of Portland as well as her eight grandchildren Lena, Amanda, Heather, David, Stephanie, Steven, Brian and Nicholas and her five grand grandchildren Robert, Timothy, Kylee, Trevor and Iris as well as many good friends. She was also the sister of the late Charlotte Dinsmore and John Twombly.

Jerry E. Flowers

 
Died: Thursday, September 6, 2012
 
Casco, ME – Jerry E. Flowers, 70, of Casco died peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at his home after a long battle with cancer.  
 
Born in Portland, ME, he was the eldest of two sons from the late Hubert G. & Reta M. (Sellick) Flowers. His brother, John, passed away in 1993. Jerry grew up in South Portland and graduated from South Portland High School as a member of the class of 1959.
 
He enlisted in the US Marines, serving a four-year tour of duty. Upon returning to Maine, he attended and graduated from the Maine State Police Academy. Jerry was proud of his twenty-year service and was a dedicated and respected Trooper. He retired from the Maine State Police in 1984 as a Corporal at which time he moved to Florida, where he continued his law enforcement career as a parole officer for the state of Florida.  Jerry permanently returned to Maine in 1990 and completed his parents’ beloved camp for year round living. 
 
A passionate boater and fisherman, he spent endless hours on Sebago Lake and cherished his cabin cruiser “Pegasus.” Jerry also loved hunting, gardening, and piping hot Maine seafood. He was an animal lover, doting on his late dogs, Sheba and Butch.
 
Jerry is survived by his three children; Stephanie Black and her husband Charlie of York, Melissa Taylor and her husband Michael of South Berwick, Scott Flowers and his wife Elizabeth of Kittery, their mother Linda Flowers of Cape Neddick, and five grandchildren. 
He leaves behind significant other, Madeline, of Casco.

Joseph A. Cosmo

 
Died: Monday, September 3, 2012
Biddeford, ME – Joseph A. Cosmo, 69, of Biddeford lost his battle with Cancer on Monday, September 3, 2012 at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Shirley Mae (Hathaway) Cosmo who died July 23, 2008.
Joe was born on August 15, 1943 in Oaks Bluff, MA a son of the late Anna (Veira) Niles and son of the late Samuel Niles. He spent most of his life as a New Bedford resident, moving to Maine within the past 10 years.
He retired in 2006 after spending most of his life as a Scallop fisherman. He enjoyed riding Harley Motorcycles when he was able. He was always making people laugh and smile, with his jokes.  In fact, just one day before passing he was joking with his “princess” Josh (nephew). Joseph was very dedicated to his family and loved by all who met him.
He is survived by a son Joseph S. Cosmo and Heidi Dudley, a step son Danny Pauline and many grandchildren. He also leaves his siblings John, Jack, Jeff, Jessie, George, Starr, Donna and Samuel and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Randall and David Cosmo

Joshua M. Jacobsen

 
Died: Sunday, September 2, 2012
 
Portland – Joshua M. Jacobsen, 22, of Kennebunk, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Maine Medical Center. 
 
Josh was born in Portland on October 10, 1989 a son of Steven W. Jacobsen of Kennebunk and Kimberly A. Chandler of Biddeford. He grew up in Kennebunk, attending local area schools and graduated from Kennebunk High School as a member of the graduating class of 2008.
 
Josh worked briefly in customer service.
 
He had a quick wit about him and ALWAYS joked around with everyone. Loved to make people laugh but would never say anything to hurt someone’s feelings.
 
Josh enjoyed baseball, cribbage, gambling and attending fairs. He also loved spending time with family and friends. Also with a smile on his face he loved to laugh and cared very deeply for everyone who was a part of his life.    He had a great love for life as well as music.  He also loved to play basketball and planned to join a basketball league.
 
He had so much life left and gave his heart and soul to every conversation he had with anyone he met; including complete strangers. He was everyone’s friend and people bonded with him instantly. You couldn’t meet Josh and not fall in love with him.
 
Besides his loving parents he is survived by a sister Jessica Jacobsen of Kennebunk and his dedicated fiancée Danielle Woodworth of Waterboro as well as many other extended family and cherished friends.

James H. Heckman Sr.

Died: Saturday, September 1, 2012
 
Vassalboro, ME — Jim lost his courageous battle with cancer on September 1, 2012. He was born on December 31, 1938 in Dayton Ohio. He was the son of Henry (Gus) and Barbara C. Heckman. He graduated from Troy High School, Troy Ohio. Jim entered the Air Force after graduation. He served his country for four years and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1961. He met his wife of 51 years, Ethel Ramsey, while stationed at Dow A.F.B. in Bangor, Maine. They were married in Orono, Maine on July 15, 1961. They were blessed with three wonderful children, James Heckman Jr., Scott Heckman and Traci Bernatchez.
 
Jim was a member of the JC’s and a lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club, and coach of the Kiwanis youth hockey team. Jim was a well-known businessman and auctioneer in the area for many years he worked for Singer Sewing Machine, White House Appliances, Pine Tree Furniture and The Morning Sentinel. He and Ethel also owned several businesses which included, Tiny Tot Diaper Service, Heckman’s Auctions and Heckman’s Party Palace. Most recently Jim was an auctioneer for Acadia Auto Auctions in Richmond and Newburg, Maine as well as Southern Auto Auctions in South Windsor Connecticut. Jim was well respected by his peers and was recently inducted into the Auctioneers Hall of Fame.
 
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Henry (Gus) and Barbara Heckman, infant sister Barbara Jean and grandsons C.J., and Lucas Heckman. He is survived by his wife Ethel, sons Jimmy and his fiancée Leora, Scott and his wife Kia, daughter Traci and her husband Kevin Bernatchez, grandsons Trevor Heckman, Kalib Bernatchez and Jacob Bernatchez, mother-in-law Ethel Ramsey, sisters-in-law Lucretia Smith , Rae Ann Oakes and her husband Peter, his surrogate daughter, personal nurse and all around good sport Jennifer Estes. He will also be missed by countless lifelong friends.
 
At Jims request a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday September 22nd at 1:00pm at Port City Auto Auction, 28 Port City Lane Richmond, Maine

Joyce A. (Alward) Powers

Windham – Joyce A. (Alward) Powers, 81, of Portland died on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at her son’s home in Windham. 
 
She was born in Portland, ME on March 25, 1931 a daughter of the late Alfred & Florence (Brume) Alward. She grew up in Portland attending local area schools and graduated from Portland High School and remained a Portland resident most of her life.
 
Joyce worked as a printer for Fairchild’s and Dow Check for many years before retiring.
 
When her children were younger she was also very active in the Cub and Boy Scouts, helping her son Jim to obtain Eagle Scout.
 
Joyce was a very social and helpful person and was a pillar within her neighborhood. She was also extremely dedicated to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 
She is survived by her son James R. Powers of Windham, her daughter Susan Powers of Portland, her two grandchildren Adam and Heidi-Jo Powers both of Portland and her two great grandchildren Kyahana Powers and Kaylyn Coty. She also leaves her brother Arnold Alward and his wife Pauline of Scarborough and her two sisters Gloria Huffnagel and her husband Paul of Shreveport, VA and Beverly Worthly and her husband Russell of Virginia Beach, VA as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Donald Alward who died in 2012. She was also the ex-wife of the late Matthew Powers.

Darlene Lake

Scarborough – Darlene Lake, 70, of Old Orchard Beach and San Marcos a la Luna Soloala, Guatemala, daughter of Donald and Jane Lake, graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School, died Sunday, August 26, 2012.
 
She was a lover of life and all things beautiful, a passionate voice and champion of horses and dogs. She was founder and director of The Retreat located on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, a community of small thatched villas where she resided for 15 years, and the author of “Woman on the Run”.
 
A private celebration of life will be held in the future.
